Work

Leading one of two teams on Jira’s Issue Backend. We’re extracting the core issue API from the Jira monolith into the Issue Service, which uses a DynamoDB document model in place of the existing normalized SQL representation. My team owns the migration path; our sibling team owns the new service. The hard part right now is moving traffic onto it without disrupting reads and writes that have been hitting the monolith for over a decade.

Doing my best to keep current with industry trends and drive effective LLM-augmented development practices across the team and department.

Reading & learning

Currently going through a deep dive into the classics. I started with Herodotus and have been moving forward from there. I’m at the Hellenistic age now and reading Alexander to Actium.

Beyond that my main media diet is The Dwarkesh Podcast, Ones and Tooze, and Odd Lots.

Outside work

Outside work I have relatively recently gotten into running and am training for a half marathon. I also do semi-regular war gaming, but am in between Necromunda campaigns.
